Iceland It is full of incredible places and one of them is the Fjaðrárgljúfur canyon. A place of a green that harms the eye and covers the walls of a deep canyon that was created thanks to the erosion caused by the water coming down from the glaciers. Today this process is not over and in its depths we can still see traces of how a landscape is gradually being built.

Iceland. The incredible canyon of Fjaðrárgljúfur

Dawn rainy in the incredible Fjaðrárgljúfur canyon atsouthern Iceland. This does not discourage us in our mission and armed with simple umbrellas we begin to make the route that borders the left flank of the canyon. Are barely 2 kilometers in a straight line with some sections that we can divert to the edge of the same canyon. This about 100 meters deep.

The incredible canyon of Fjaðrárgljúfur

The ground is slippery and in some sections it is more comfortable to walk through the grass which we will have to do in much of the way. At the moment we limit ourselves to climbing a small slope that is behind the parking lot until we reach the first viewpoint that glimpses the great beauty of the Fjaðrárgljúfur canyon.

The rain that fell made each viewpoint a point of real risk. There are no protective fences that dirty the landscape but this makes it go very carefully when we approach the edge of the abyss. A slip and you don't directly tell. In my opinion we were crazy in some sections so I do not advise on rainy days to commit the same imprudence as us.

We continue the path and reach the end, where a set of waterfalls are dropped to the deepest part of the canyon. A place that invites us to look for a good view for a while but in our case we had to refuse due to the incessant rain that was only increasing, even more when the wind made an appearance and the umbrella began to lose all its usefulness . At least our gore deTernua behaved like a champion and didn't stop a single drop.

As a final note, this place served as a shoot for the second part of Thor, the dark world. Iceland is undoubtedly a land of filming and many people remember the famous Game of Thrones , Prometheus, Oblivion, Batman Begins among others.
